Health Information Management Technology (HIM)
The Health Information Management program at Cincinnati State focuses on the maintenance of health care data and management of information resources. Health Information Management professionals collect, integrate, and analyze primary and secondary health care data; disseminate information; and manage information resources related to the research, planning, provision, payment, and evaluation of health care services.
Graduates earn an Associate of Applied Science degree, and are prepared to take the national certification examination for registered health information technicians (RHIT) offered through the American Health Information Management Association. Students must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 to graduate.
All of the core courses in the Health Information Management program are offered online.
A survey of HIM associate degree graduates is conducted annually. Results of this survey revealed that 100% of the graduates who completed the survey were highly satisfied with the program. Graduates indicated that the program prepared them with the skills and knowledge necessary to perform as a HIM professional, and make informed decisions in the workplace.
An annual survey of employers is also performed. The results of this survey revealed that 100% of employers who completed the survey were highly satisfied with the quality of our HIM graduates. The employers indicated that graduates they have hired demonstrate the knowledge and technical skills necessary to perform their jobs, are able to think critically, problem solve, and function effectively as team members.
