” OPS – Clerk Specialist “

I worked at Florida Department of Revenue part-time for more than a year

One of the better environments I’ve worked in. Extremely friendly within the OWM. Everyone is willing to help and invested in your growth.

Compensation is low across the board

” Easy Job Work/Life Balance “

The work, in general, is easy and deadlines can be a little tough to meet.

Low salary. Supervisors can be annoying depends on who you get.

Go easy on the new people so they actually stay.

” Mostly a good experience “

I have been working at Florida Department of Revenue full-time for more than 6 years

I have great co-workers and a lot of flexibility when needed. Some job tracks include the opportunity to telework, which is a bonus both in terms of savings–money, gas, wear and tear on my vehicle–and in terms of feeling like I’m treated as a responsible adult instead of micromanaged 24/7 like I have in other fields.

Some other fields are very prone to micromanagement and unrealistic metrics, sometimes even completely impossible-to-meet requirements (think having one actual task to work for a period when you are required to complete ten). In addition, pay is low–the best workers may be tempted to move to more lucrative private-sector jobs.

Advice to Management

Provide more opportunities for advancement.

” No future, no advancement, and poor pay “

I have been working at Florida Department of Revenue full-time for more than 4 years

Easy no hassle place to work. Benefits are good and on par with private industry.

Starting pay is less than 50% of what I was offered when my IRS appointment came through. No raises either. Of course most Florida State employees only have HS diplomas. even the MANAGERS! No advancement. Managers have a terrible practice of hiring friends from other State programs into new positions at their current salary. This type of cronyism leads to inexperienced workers earning twice what existing workers.

Advice to Management

Stop letting the Manager’s buddies abuse flex time! They come in and “work” before the office is is open, and then flex out at the busiest time of day! The rest of us have to pick up their slack (or not because we got sick of it)

” THEY DON’T VALUE THEIR VALUES “

I have been working at Florida Department of Revenue full-time for more than 4 years

Medical benefits, Sick leave, Vacation, and free personal day

– Extremely poor management – Awful appraisal system; personal bias used instead of work accomplishments – No mandatory training program – Lies to employees about salary increases – Only management and those in their circle receive salary increases – Micro management style – No room for growth if you work outside of Florida – Task orientated, no development programs – Management relies on hearsay instead of facts.

Advice to Management

Operate with integrity across the board. Create a better method of evaluating employees. Tell the truth regarding salary increases, promotions, etc. Develop a system where employees from outside of Florida can evaluate their offices. Conduct a salary evaluation. some folk are making more than they should, compared to others. Hold management responsible for how they treat their employees. Review and update position.
