Damascus, SANA- On the right bank of the Euphrates River, 85 km west of Raqqa city, ruins of columns, walls, the remains of houses were scattered and Qi halls about an ancient civilization was established in this place, it was called the kingdom of Emar.
Before the archaeologists discovered this Kingdom, they have known it through Ebla, Mary and Ugarit texts and they stopped at the extremely influential role it played in political and economic relationships between Syria, Mesopotamia and Anatolia states, specifying its virtual location on a site currently known as Maskana.
The kingdom was discovered in 1972 by the mission of the French Institute for Arabic Studies in Damascus which dates back in its ancient history, according to what archaeologist researcher Dr. Bassam Jamous confirms to the third millennium BC, and it lasted till the end of the modern Bronze Age.
Jamous added that Emar was mentioned in the cuneiform texts about ancient Syria according to its importance and geographical location, which made it a commercial and economical center in the intermediate and modern Bronze periods, and it became a commercial port from one side and a natural defending site from another.
