UK Malta Car Imports
As Cab4Now.com readers know I have been reluctant to return to London to drive a minicab due to the significant downturn in earnings potential. This has led me to extend my travels throughout Asia for the last 6 months and I have now returned again to my main home in Malta.
The challenge before me is to know in which direction I wish to go. Should I return to Addison Lee. Or maybe become a private hire operator in London, Brighton or, even, Adur? Or maybe just buy an S Class Mercedes and get to work with Uber whilst renewing my old contacts and developing new ones in London and at all the airports.
All options, apart from the obvious, Addison Lee. represent a significant investment at a time in my life when I really am not sure that I want to build another business.
So, I have decided to offer a service with no real daily demands, no regulation and little capital investment which allows me to spend more time in Malta.
All my Maltese readers know that the price of cars in Malta, new and used, is 30 to 50% higher than in the UK. Many of you will be aware that due to this there are now dozens of agents who will source vehicles and have them delivered for you to Malta saving 20 or 30% of the local purchase price in Malta.
My proposal is simple for my readers in Malta. Find the car you want in the UK online. Contact me here and leave the rest to me.
To kick off the service I have available a one owner 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.0 CRDi GLS 4WD.
I have owned the car since new. Mainly 70,000 motorway miles between my homes in UK, France and Malta. It has:-
- Leather Seats
- Central Lock
- Electric Windows
- Tinted Windows
- Air Conditioned
- Alloy Wheels
- Driver Side Airbag
- Passenger Side Airbag
- Electric Mirrors
- Power Steering
- Kenwood Music Keg, CD and Radio
- Leather Interior
It is available for €15,000 delivered to Malta and I am, of course, open to offers. The price includes Malta s Registration Tax of €5,593. If you prefer to pay this yourself then the price can be reduced by €5,593 based on the final price we negotiate for a sale.
The vehicle is also available for sale in Brighton, UK for £5,000 negotiable.
Any car can be sourced by me for a commission of 10% plus expenses for delivery to Malta. Cars priced above £30,000 can be sourced by me for a commission of 7% plus expenses.
Malta has among the highest registration taxes for most types of vehicles.
Of interest to anyone bringing a car in to Malta is the Registration Value (RV). The old system depended on a valuation carried out by the Malta Transport Authority. Since 1st January 2009, the new valuation system takes into account the depreciation rate (and residual value) of a similar vehicle in Malta, and is available online here. The system allows the user to calculate the tax that would be due if the vehicle were to be registered.
Vehicle registation tax rates in Malta are, in my opinion, a rip off. It can be the case, when the RV calculations are done, that you face car registration taxes which are higher than the value of the car. But, since used car prices hold up well in Malta, you might end up selling it in Malta and not losing out too much but it does depend on vehicle type and demand.
So, if you re in Malta and want your next car from the UK and want to save over 20% on local Maltese car prices then please contact me.
