West Virginia University

  • 4 Year
  • Morgantown, WV

Alum : During my time as a student, I worked at the NASA Space Grant office at the Engineering Campus. Yes, NASA, in West Virginia! WVU is one of the best colleges in the state, there are so many opportunities for every type of person! The state of West Virginia needs a lot of work, but West Virginia University is really the best thing about the state. They are bringing in jobs, educating people, and overall contributing to the betterment of the state. I actually went to a different college first and transferred here later, and I am so glad I did! My life has changed for the better because of my time at WVU!

Wheeling Jesuit University

  • 4 Year
  • Wheeling, WV

Alum : I graduated in 1971. I was appointed to the board of directors in 1973. The school was in financial straits but the new board rectified the financial situation, Fr Currie hired top notch development and admissions personnel and the Board raised money especially the McDonough contributions. After Currie left things slowly went downhill until the current board and the recent board members must have made some bad decisions for the recent announcements to occur. Now it will take a miracle to keep the school afloat. Leadership just is not there today! So disappointing!

Marshall University

  • 4 Year
  • Huntington, WV

Senior : Marshall is one of the more affordable universities in my area. I’ve gotten many opportunities to improve myself both within my major and outside it. It feels as if a new opportunity of some sort is advertised each week. The professors are, for the most part, very helpful. Nearly all of the faculty and students I have met are friendly. The city it’s in has a lot of crime, however, but Marshall has quite a few campus police to make up for this. I recommend Marshall University highly if you’re looking for an undergraduate degree!

Bethany College – West Virginia

  • 4 Year
  • Bethany, WV

Alum : Alumni networking is huge. After I was hired for my first local job, I learned that the HR directors son was an alumni. She raved over the Bethany education and it’s reputation. One should never under estimate the power of networking. Bethany is a small community situated in the gorgeous mountains of WV. It offers a beautiful landscape for mountain bike riding and hiking. There are creeks, trails, farms and fields. Old Mains historic architecture is stunning. I lived in Phillips Hall for 3 years. It is a gorgeous gothic residence hall with double and single room occupancy. Bethany also boasts more modern living in the Campbell Village suites. Greek housing is also offered beyond freshman year. The professors are very caring and well versed in their field. They are accessible and they want you to succeed. You are not just a number in small Bethany classroom. I would be honored if any of my children were accepted as Legacies.

West Virginia Wesleyan College

Sophomore : This will be my second year attending WVWC and I can’t help but brag on my experience here! Ever since my first visit I knew this was my home among the hills. Everyone is so excepting and very helpful here on campus. They never fail to make someone feel at home and is it as if we are all one big family. The professors are unbelievable, academics are some of the best in the state, athletics you can’t even get me started on, and the safety is just indescribable! I’ve never once doubted this college!

West Liberty University

  • 4 Year
  • West Liberty, WV

Freshman : West Liberty has a great atmosphere, the campus is nice and peaceful. The classes are beneficial. The only thing that would be nice is if there were more activities since it is in the middle of nowhere and most students don’t have transportation. Transportation opportunities would be amazing!

West Virginia University Institute of Technology

  • 4 Year
  • Beckley, WV

Freshman : If you’re looking for a small school with great STEM programs, this is the place. The teachers are very helpful towards their students, especially if the student shows a good work ethic. Although it is a small school, there are still some great sports teams to watch on and off campus. The school is also on the cheaper end for a quality STEM degree at the end of the tunnel. The student body is very active and there are many clubs on campus for a variety of subjects. It is also very easy to create a club if a student desires.

Niche User : Their Maroon and White Day was very informational! I loved their small campus and friendly staff and students! I enjoyed visiting their campus and I am excited to be an upcoming freshman this year! I am excited to see what they can offer to my education and for my future, I am glad I picked Fairmont State University for my home for the next four years! All of their professors and students were very open and inviting to the freshman visiting and they all wanted to help the best they could and they made an effort to remember your name and where you came from.

Shepherd University

  • 4 Year
  • Shepherdstown, WV

Sophomore : I like Shepherd University a lot! The professors are kind and want their students to succeed. Shepherd makes their admission process simple for their students. Their registration process is also very simple. However, Shepherd’s office of Residence Life is not always the most helpful. They tend to respond to emails very late and not always answer questions completely. The school as a whole is great though!

American Public University System

    4 Year (Online)

Junior : APUS and AMU are perfect for those that want to further or begin their education while fulfilling obligations of work, parenthood, etc. Completely online, APUS/AMU offer almost every degree you would find at an in person college for both undergraduate and graduate programs. Military members, veterans, and their dependents have a tuition cap making it easily affordable compared to other 4 year institutions. The application process is made easy with continuous communication from the first click to graduation from all departments who are invested in your success. I have always been so impressed by the helpfulness of all departments with any and all questions I may have along the way. It’s convinent, affordable, and even though it’s online they make it feel personal and inclusive!

Senior : Loved GSC and my experience! I have spend five years in Glenville, WV and I will always value the time I spent here. The professors want to see you succeed and help you a long the way. The campus feels like home and the departments feel like your family. GSC also has a variety of sports to choose from, I boxed. I was also a student worker and really loved working for one of Glenville’s offices. My professors were very understanding and work with me because I was a student athlete and student worker.

West Virginia State University

  • 4 Year
  • Institute, WV

Freshman : The application process for WVSU was very easy going and it made things a lot less complicated when applying to the school. Now being at the school as a full time student, I have noticed after just one semester that the professors are here for the students and want the students to pass and succeed. I like how the class sizes are not that big which makes it feel kind of like a high school in that sense. The president of the school is wanting all students to pass in four years so no one has to pay more money than what they should. He is very big on the “15 in 4” policy and I respect that because if someone wants to go to grad school they should get out of their undergrad in four years! Overall, as much as I am not a fan of where the school is located, the academic side of things makes everything better because I know I can go get tutoring if need be.

Potomac State College of West Virginia University

  • 4 Year
  • Keyser, WV

Freshman : I like being apart of Potomac State College because it is a local college. I commute, so it is not far from where I live. I have enjoyed in being apart of the classes. The classes here are small, not to large to were you can not focus on what you need to learn. Something I would like to change about Potomac State is the housing and safety. The housing are an average and so is the safety. The college could improve on these things by being more above average and taking the students advice when they try to change the issues.

West Virginia University at Parkersburg

  • 4 Year
  • Parkersburg, WV

Sophomore : All of my professors have been nice, Professor Thompson in particular is always energetic and understanding, he really goes above and beyond for his students making sure we understand the material. The administrative staff is also really nice and they seem to care about the students as well. Those combined with the exceptional price of education makes this school an amazing place to study! The school has many study areas which are cozy, clean and well lit, as well as a tutoring center. The only slight drawback is parking for the Caperton Center and Applied Technology center leaves a bit to be desired, but the short walk is occasionally enjoyed.

Concord University

  • 4 Year
  • Athens, WV

Sophomore : The staff is very personable. They are always there for the student first. Very helpful and informative. The campus can be kind of confusing between buildings looking somewhat similar. However, the staff has recently provided several ways to improve the direction of where to go for classes. Most professors are extremely caring and understanding. They work with the students inside and out of the university. The learning process is very well thought out and re-looked at many times with many eyes to make sure it is the best possible scenario for the students.

Salem International University

  • 4 Year
  • Salem, WV

Freshman : This is my first semester at Salem and have liked everything so far. We have one class a month which I love. It is close to my house and the campus is great. All of the books are electronic books which are included in the tuition. We have classes 4 days a week and are finished by 12:00pm. There has been a lot of homework but that is to be expected trying to complete one class in 4 weeks. Parking hasn’t been an issue yet. The classrooms are nice and professors seem knowledgeable.

Appalachian Bible College

College Freshman : I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at school so far. I have become involved in many various activities, but I am excited to see that it does not conflict with my grades and studied. Making so many friends, and traveling with the volleyball team and choir have been the highlights so far. I found the work load to be fairly easy and a high GPA very attainable. Overall, college has been great so far!

Ohio Valley University

  • 4 Year
  • Vienna, WV

Freshman : I live in Parkersburg, West Virginia so I know all about Vienna. It’s a very good place to grow up or go to college because it’s pretty safe around these parts. There’s not too much to do here but it’s just a good area to live in. I’m studying energy management and production engineering (EMPE) and so far I’m loving it and I just got straight a’s for my first semester. Dr. Blair is the main professor for EMPE and he’s one of the best people that you could ever meet. We have 4 social groups for students to join in; which are delta, kappa, sigma, and theta. Joining a group is a good way to make new friends, make memories, compete in sports against other social groups, and a good way to get community service hours. I’m also a thrower for OVU’s track and field team and it’s also been a lot of fun but challenging at the same time because this has been our first year. We have a lot of other sports for people to do here also.
