News Agency Bloomberg could lose accreditation in Russia if will prove ineffective other measures in connection with his false publications about the Russian Federation. On Thursday said the first Deputy head of the Duma United Russia and a member of the Commission on investigation of facts of foreign interference in the Affairs of the Russian Federation Adalbi Shhagoshev.
“Diplomatically, you can share forever. And to use soft diplomacy, which we use, can not afford. And the next step of course will be the development of legislative initiatives and action until the withdrawal of the accreditation,” said Shhagoshev following the meeting of the Commission.
The MP stressed that the withdrawal of the accreditation of a number of foreign media is not a strategy for Russia. “But if you can’t achieve a result through legislative initiatives, current legislation, to hold them accountable and even to invite them to the conversation, then, is this second path,” he warned.
According to him, it’s not just about Bloomberg, but “and many other very large news agencies.” United Russia also recalled the bill providing for heavy fines for foreign media for violating the electoral legislation of the Russian Federation. “We are going to extend this bill to work on. And it will concern not only of the electoral legislation”, – said Shhagoshev.
The bill proposes to amend the Code of administrative offences, including in article 5.11, which provides sanctions for illegal campaigning. According to the document, the Commission of the offense by a foreign media outlet or organization would entail imposing a fine on citizens in the amount from 110 thousand to 170 thousand rubles, for officials – from 2.25 million to 3.5 million. The fine for legal persons can be up to 4% of the turnover of the cash received from the media for the preceding calendar year, but not less than 2.25 million rubles.
